Who We Are

The Pentecostal Church - Harvey Campus is a Christ-centered, apostolic congregation, founded upon the infallible Word of God.

We are a multicultural church dedicated to reaching up in worship, reaching out in evangelism and reaching in through discipleship by the Word of God.

Our Vision

With a vision of twenty-five multi-site campuses, we purpose to minister to the needs of hurting people in and around Chicago-land and Northwest Indiana.

What We Believe

We believe God's Word in its entirety and that His Word never changes. "Thy Word is truth" and is as clear and relevant today as it was centuries ago.

We proclaim the life-changing experience of repentance, being baptized in water by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins as the apostles did, and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the initial sign of speaking in tongues "as the Spirit gave the utterance".

We believe the bible teaches there is only one God (Deut. 6:4) and there is no one beside him (Isaiah 44:6). The one true God revealed himself as Father in the Old Testament, as the Son He was manifested in the flesh (1 Tim 3:16), and as Spirit (John 4:24), He sent his Holy Spirit to comfort us and dwell inside of us (John 14:16-26).

We believe in One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism. For more information on our beliefs, please visit www.upci.org/doctrine.

Our History

Starting with a tent revival in 1954 that led to a storefront mission at 14701 Page Avenue in Harvey, Illinois, and then to a little church building at 15719 Lexington in Harvey, the United Pentecostal Church of Harvey grew to be a well-established church under the founding leadership of Rev. James Abshire.

In 1965, after several years of faithfully leading the church, Rev. Abshire felt lead of the Lord to resign the pastorate of the UPC of Harvey in order to begin a new church work in another city.

Rev. Warren Hilderbrand was voted in as pastor in March of 1965 and as the church continued to grow they entered into a building program where they erected our current facility at 16423 Lathrop Ave in Harvey, Illinois.

In 1982 Rev. Terry Cox was voted in as pastor and was instrumental in leading the church in a biblical understanding and growth for over twenty-five years.

In 2002 Rev. Terry Cox felt lead to ask his son, Rev. Anthony Cox, to join him in the role of pastor. Rev. Anthony Cox received a 99% vote from the congregation and was elected as Pastor.

Since the untimely death of Rev. Terry Cox in 2008, Rev. Anthony Cox has faithfully lead the church. We have increased both numerically and spiritually under his leadership and continue to experience the blessing of God.

We understand that we have a great heritage and history, and a solid foundation on which we were built. We honor all the men and women who have worked in the past to bring us to where we are today and do not want to ever forget the past sacrifices that others have made for our church.

We also know that the best is yet to come. We as a church family are committed to doing whatever needs to be done in order for the future of our church to be even greater that our past!
